Posters for wine rest on a paradox: the very best wines have little need to ever advertise, leaving the field to less distinguished players. The lithographs produced by Chateau Mouton Rothschild of their famous wine labels bridge this yawning gap.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, one of the world’s most expensive wines, adopted the practice of commissioning a different piece of contemporary art each year for its wine label. Begun shortly after World War 2 this has produced many works from some of the very best artists of the mid/late C20th, including Picasso, Dali, & more recently, David Hockney. As stand alone pieces of graphic design, they are simply superb.

The lithographs have been produced to an usually high standard, consistent with the premium product they represent. Unlike the wine which is accessible only to a very lucky few, these lithographs work for anyone with an eye for design. They have been mounted on and under acid free board & are ready to frame. Perhaps a different way to enjoy Mouton Rothschild & the next best thing to an actual bottle.
