As measured by network miles in the 1940’s & 1950’s, Air France certainly was the world’s largest airline, a claim boldly stated in Nathan-Garamond’s striking modernist design. Printed in English, the poster shows a stylised jet plane, perhaps pre-empting the introduction of the Boeing 707 to the fleet in 1960. First used in the 1930’s, the famous “flying shrimp” logo features prominently, giving a nice sense of continuity at the dawn of the jet age.

Unbacked, the poster is in reasonable condition. It has been rolled at some stage and has a central crease as shown. There are age related nicks and small tears to the edges, stabilised on rear side with light archival tape. The colours remain deep, bright, and sharp. This is a lovely example of a mid-century airline poster.
