Title: Harlow’s New York’s Most Exciting Discotheque
Year: 1966
Artist: Jerry McDaniel (1935-)
Size (cm): 104.8 X 147.3
Country of origin: USA
New York’s most exciting disco and, according to some, the first. Designed by Jerry McDaniel, a patron of the club, the poster shows a quartet of women dancing. Although understated the poster shows elements of mid 1960s avant garde fashion: flares, the mini skirt and psychedelic patterns – it’s a riot of youthful movement and fun.
This is a large poster and forms part of the collection at the V&A, the largest in the UK. Small areas of loss are visible at the upper end of both vertical sides, both of which could be hidden under a mount when framing. The image is in excellent condition & suggests this poster has not been previously been displayed. This is an impressive poster for anyone seeking a statement piece.
