Concorde, the world’s first (and only) commercially operated supersonic airliner, flown by British Airways and Air France. Concorde first flew in 1969 and this poster dates from that year and beautifully displays the skills of Theo Page.
It’s an interesting poster, produced and distributed to schools and showing details of the provisional number of orders, plus the livery of some of the various airlines with orders to add Concorde to their fleet. This print pre-dated the changing economic circumstances that caused these orders to be cancelled. Later versions of this poster have this feature removed and replaced by a sponsors logo.
Concorde remains a marvel of engineering excellence and national pride, well captured in this bold and optimistic poster.
The poster has been folded and has creases but shows almost no light damage suggesting it was stored rather than displayed. This is rare as the poster usually shows its age and signs of the rather unforgiving school environment where it was usually displayed.
