A landmark Hotel on the sea front of a landmark holiday destination – Nice
The poster advertises the Hotel Bea Rivage, Nice, built in 1860, and is based on a photograph dating from the 1900’s.
The poster was used at different times in the Hotel’s history and several different types have sold at auction over the years. The oldest versions are from the very beginning of the C20th but this particular lithograph looks and feels like a later printing. It is difficult to be precise but based on the dimensions and general condition, it is more likely one of those printed in the mid 1920’s (an identical poster offered at auction in Switzerland was dated 1925).
The poster is in reasonable condition, complete and free from loss. The borders contain the usual, age related nicks and small tears but nothing severe that intrudes into the image. The top left corner is “dog-eared” & has been stabilised on the reverse side with light archival tape. The colours retain a nice depth & vibrancy.
