A large format aircraft recognition poster showing the RAF’s anti-submarine/reconnaissance Shackleton.
The Shackleton’s lineage reaches back to the famous Avro Lancaster of WW2. It was designed for long range, anti-submarine/maritime reconnaissance work until replaced in the 1970s by the jet powered Nimrod aircraft. Some Shackletons were then converted to provide an AEW function, finally being retired in 1991 after 40 years service.
This poster was designed for display within the confines of RAF and FAA stations – very few survive today, particularly of this very iconic aircraft. This is exceedingly rare.
The poster has a central fold and shows its age (see images) with nicks, creases and small edge tears stabilised on the reverse with light, archival tape.
The poster is unbacked
