Some of the very best posters were produced for drinks brands and “Aristo, The King of Anis” is a lovely example of highly skilled lithography from this genre. Its age is uncertain but my research suggests 1920’s although I’m willing to revise this if better information comes to light.
The poster has damage: paper loss in the lower right corner as shown, a tear mid way along the lower edge stabilised with light archival tape on the reverse, very small areas of loss / tears across the central section, water staining along the lower portion of the poster reaching to the “ARI” of “Aristo”.
Despite these obvious flaws, the poster retains its charm, it really is a lovely example of the ever popular genre of French Drinks posters – endlessly copied but never better than the originals.
